I bought my '95 with 1600 mi. on it for $1900 ($100 less than the guy's bottom-line asking price due to a dent in the tank.) I'd have probably paid $2200 or so without the damaged tank. I recently found out the book value on my bike is only $1950, so I guess I didn't get that great a deal looking back!

eBay has several Savage auctions going on at any given time all over the US if you're set on getting one. The miles are most often low. I heard Forward Air transports cycles for as low as $200.

The Savage hasn't changed all that much over the years. I may be wrong, but the 95's and up are pretty much the same bike (someone correct me if I'm wrong!). I believe the 80's bikes only have 4 gears and the 1995's and up have 5 gears.

But another thing you want to consider buying the 2001 is that you would have a dealer to perhaps warranty the bike and to go to if you have problems right off the bat. Better yet, you can probably ride off with this 2001 today!
